Even over two centuries after Alexander von Humboldt’s celebrated expedition through the New World (1799-1804), he is well remembered on both sides of the Atlantic. This appreciation of the Prussian naturalist and his contribution to the advancement of knowledge also extends to those regions that he did not visit, which is reflected in numerous places that carry his name.

7:30-8:30pm: Lecture Talk – 250 Years of Alexander von Humboldt: The explorer, his scientific project and his relevance today.

Speaker:

Dr. Sandra Rebok is a German historian of science, author and scientific consultant, residing in Spain. Her research and publications focus on the globalization of knowledge and transnational scientific collaborations during the nineteenth century. She has over twenty years of experience in Alexander von Humboldt scholarship and is the author of several books and numerous articles on Humboldt, as well as the editor of three of his works in Spanish.

In the context of the Humboldt 250th anniversary commemoration this year, Dr. Rebok has been invited to give lectures on different topics related to Humboldt in Europe, Canada, United States and various countries in Iberoamerica.
